Gateway M685-E and NX860 dual-core laptops
Fujitsu isn't the only company
rolling out dual-core
laptops at CES. Gateway is showing off two dual-core portables of its own: the business-oriented M685-E and NX860.
Both will be powered by Intel's Centrino Duo processors, and will include 17-inch displays, will include nVidia GeForce
Go graphics controllers, and will weigh roughly 7.7 pounds. Both models are due out later this month. Gateway will also
roll out a series of consumer dual-core laptops later this quarter, incuding the NX560, which will feature a 15.4-inch
widescreen display.

If you are a power user looking to buy a new dual-core notebook, save your money and wait. AMD is working on a 64-bit dual-core chipset that will be both more powerful than Intel's and MUCH more affordable. With Windows Vista on the horizon, it seems that the days of the 32-bit processor are number. To me, Intel releasing a 32-bit dual-core is a futile attempt to catch some of the notebook market, as it's 64-bit dual-core processor will be 4-6 months behind AMD's. For those looking for a notebook gor gaming and/or engineering graphics, I would recommend that you wait for AMD to take the next step ahead of Intel.
