Google just released the excellent and relatively inexpensive Pixel 5a, and the company has also already given us a look at the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. So you could easily guess that the Pixel 5 is not long for this world, and you'd be right. According to a statement received by DigitalTrends, Google is done selling the Pixel 5 as well as the Pixel 4a 5G.

Google fixes a Pixel 5 bug that played system sounds at max volume
As Android Police reported back in December, there’s a bug causing the device to play audio like touch and screenshot sounds, dialer tones and camera clicks at the loudest volume possible even if users turn the volume down. Now, Google has rolled out a fix for the issue as part of the Pixel’s January update. One of the patches that came with the January update brings “improvements for volume level of system sounds” on the Pixel 5, according to Google’s notes.

Google calls reported Pixel 5 screen gaps 'normal'
Shortly after the Pixel 5 started shipping in October, complaints about a possible design flaw started popping up on forums, including Google’s own community. Now a Google Community Specialist has posted on the tech giant’s forum, telling owners that they have nothing to worry about in that regard. Unfortunately, the specialist didn’t explain why there’s a “variation in the clearance between the body and the display” and if it’s caused by the assembly process.

Pixel 5 'Battery Share' makes reverse wireless charging easier
One of the things we praised about the Pixel 5 in our review is its long battery life, which you can take advantage of if you need quick access to a wireless charger. Google’s new flagship device has reverse wireless charging capabilities called “Battery Share,” and according to its support page (found by 9to5Google), the feature automatically turns on once you plug in the phone. When the Pixel 5 recognizes that it’s plugged in via USB-C and that it’s charging, Battery Share switches on “for a short period,” the support page says.

Google Pixel 5 review: An off year for Pixel fans
Google’s approach to Android is as charming as ever, and at $700, the Pixel 5 is one of the least expensive Pixels ever, at least if you discount all those deliberately lower-end ‘a’ phones. And now that 5G networks are widely available, you can finally use a Pixel to tap into them. Those are all good things, but Google has a problem: There's now a handful of excellent phones in the same price range, and I'm not convinced the Pixel 5 has what it takes to beat them.

After Google’s fall hardware event yesterday, I spent some time comparing the Pixel 5 to the Pixel 4a 5G and was surprised to find few noteworthy differences between the two phones. Given that the Pixel 4a 5G only costs $499 here in the US, a full $200 less than the 5, Google’s flagship felt like a bit of a tough sell. The awkwardly-named Pixel 4a 5G UW is priced at $599, only $100 less than the Pixel 5, a phone that also works on Verizon’s mmWave network.

Verizon's mmWave version of the Pixel 4a 5G costs $100 extra
Earlier today, Google announced the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, both of which Verizon (Engadget’s parent company) will carry. You can chalk up the price hike on the fact Verzion’s version of the phone, the Pixel 4a 5G UW, has additional radios and antennas to take advantage of the carrier’s mmWave 5G buildouts. For a $100 more, you can buy the Pixel 5 through Verizon and get a phone with a bigger battery, IP68 water resistance, Qi wireless charging, a 90Hz display and more RAM.
