Amazon sets Sundance record by acquiring Mindy Kaling's 'Late Night'
Amazon might just be the biggest player at the Sundance Film Festival this year. The internet giant has spent $13 million to acquire the US rights to Late Night, a movie written, produced and starring Mindy Kaling. As Deadline pointed out, that's a record for any US-only deal at Sundance -- even Amazon's $12 million rights deal for The Big Sick included a few places beyond American borders. There was reportedly a fierce four-way fight for the movie, suggesting that Amazon was determined to stay on top.
Jon Fingas01.26.2019NBC's Seeso comedy streaming service is now available
If you cut the cord but still miss network shows like Parks & Recreation or The Office (US), you can now officially sign up to NBC's Seeso comedy streaming network. The service, launched in October, has been in a free limited beta for the last month. There are over 2,000 hours of content in the collection to start with, with classic stuff like Monty Python's Flying Circus and The Kids in the Hall on top of NBC's own programming. Late night shows Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live will also stream just a day after they air on the big network. If you're interested, it's only $4 per month, but whether that's feasible depends on how many streaming subscriptions you already have.
Steve Dent01.07.2016Tim Cook is Stephen Colbert's next 'Late Show' tech guest
Stephen Colbert continues to rack up high-profile tech guests for The Late Show and the latest is none other than Apple CEO Tim Cook. Of course, Colbert announced it in the most new-Colbert way possible: Smiling for the camera, talking into his Apple Watch in a Twitter photo and asking Siri to pencil the Cupertino boss in for next Tuesday, September 15th. It probably isn't a far cry to expect the iPhone 6S and iPad Pro will be major points of conversation, but anything's possible. Set your DVRs, folks.

Ross Miller12.20.2010Josh invades Late Night studio with flying robot army of one (video)
Lest you weren't glued to your television sets last night, our own Josh Topolsky raised quite a bit of mayhem on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night show. After doing the professional thing and showing off the minuscule Apple TV and Roku XDS media streamers, Josh proceeded to power up an AR.Drone quadricopter and fly it around the studio in a decidedly menacing fashion. For video of Jimmy's courageous reaction and the fallout from this robot invasion, jump past the break. [Thanks, Sonny]
Vlad Savov10.01.2010Josh and Jimmy get busy in hot 4X action (video)
iPhone 4 and Motorola's Droid X, together on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in some kind of weird erotic mashup. Gadgets, a band, celebrity impersonations, and more awkward sexual innuendo with an ex-supermodel than a nerd can shake a retina display at. Check it all out after the break.

Laura June Dziuban06.23.2010Josh (and the iPad) on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon!
Hey, so our main dude Joshua Topolsky just demoed the iPad on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where the audience was wowed by iBooks, Jimmy drove a Mini Cooper into the wall, and the Engadget staff celebrated the return of JT's beard. US-only NBC embeds after the break -- and we'll have a rip viewable internationally in just a few, hold tight. Oh, and obviously we'll have our full review up in the morning -- we promise it's no holds barred. Update: We've added a Viddler version for the international crowd, check it below!
Nilay Patel04.03.2010Jimmy and 'the nerdy guy' yuk it up Late Night style (video)
It happened, did you feel it? A shockwave of nerdery so sublime that only a slot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon could contain it. Josh and Jimmy mixed up a mean stew of gadget gusto last night which you can now watch after the break. It's a two-parter 'cause even the boys in NBC post production couldn't limit our man Toplotsky to a single cut.
Thomas Ricker12.19.2009Josh is on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight!

Nilay Patel12.18.2009Robin Williams plays Call of Duty, named his daughter Zelda (guess why!)
Though we may not be steadfast watchers of Jimmy Fallon's late night talkshow, we have to give the man credit for once again bringing the world of gaming into his decidedly non-gaming television show. While Robin Williams guested on Fallon's show this week, he asked the hairy-handed comedian about his gaming habits – some of which we've covered in the past – and found out that not only does the man play his fair share of Call of Duty, but he also named his daughter "Zelda" after ... well, the Princess Zelda. "My daughter is named after a video game ... Zelda, Princess Zelda. I don't call her Princess Zelda ... only occasionally ... but she's named after Zelda." So forget about your LaBeoufs and your Dushkus – Robin Williams is holding it down hardcore and old-school for all of Hollywood.
Ben Gilbert11.28.2009Josh reveals TwitterPeek on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Qlorigan** (video)
Only on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon could the TwitterPeek overshadow Verizon's DROID. Fact of the matter is, it's easier to grasp the idea of a dedicated tweeting device than a Verizon phone touting "open development" as one of its main features. TwitterPeek is available now for $200, a price that includes lifetime service, or $100 for a 6 month subscription. Hit the read link below for details or mosey on through to the other side of the break for the Late Night buffoonery. ** Qlorigan is a trademark of Fallon Corp.
Thomas Ricker11.03.2009Jimmy Kimmel debuted last night in HD...let's see if anyone noticed
Surprise, surprise, late night TV had a show or two that had not yet made the jump to high definition. Thanks to our friends at TV Squad, we've got a video clip from Jimmy Kimmel's first broadcast in 720p (embedded after the break.) We're not sure how we missed this highly anticipated debut (probably because we didn't get an invite), we apologize and promise to do better. The day Carson Daly switches to HD we will be right on it (unless of course he's currently HDTV-ready, in which case we will substitute Chelsea Lately, a show we actually watch.)[Via TV Squad]
Richard Lawler04.16.2009Jimmy Fallon and Engadget: raw and uncut
We had a chance to get on the show floor at CES and chat with Jimmy Fallon (the new face of late night television as he's taking over for Conan O'Brien in March) on his gadget tastes, stock purchases, and jacket size. We hope you enjoy as much as we did.Special thanks to Trent Wolbe for shooting the video
Joshua Topolsky01.09.2009Time shifting
I've posted before about my insomnia and how it affects my WoW play: last night was a key example, as I ground AB marks on my Tauren Warrior, then ran Durnholde Keep on my Draenei Shaman, then went back to Arathi Basin on the bull until server shutdown. When I play in the afternoon or evenings, my PvP experience tends to be mostly positive, with the Horde winning about as many games as we lose and giving a good showing for ourselves even when we do lose. Last night was not like that. Instead, it was the Alliance rolling over us like a crimson zerg, crushing our faces into the dirt, every AB mark I managed to collect soaked with the blood and tears of a demoralized force that actually cheered on the eventual five caps as a mercy killing. As you might expect I found it frustrating enough that I took the time off to go run an instance on my Ally shammy, which went well enough... basically it was four 70's and a 69 (me) burning our way through Durnholde Keep, remarkably little strategy or tactical application of our abilities, very much the kind of 'Hulk Smash' run I usually hate. And I hated this one, too, as they talked to Thrall before I had a chance to and so I didn't get to finish the quest, so I'll have to go back there again to get that done.
Matthew Rossi11.27.2007Late Show writer doesn't find humor in smoking G4 adapter
Looks like Justin Stengel of The Late Show with David Letterman picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue... since he was able to detect the acrid odor of his G4 power adapter scorching and sparking its way through the cord insulation. Whoops. The rather laconic response from the Genius Bar ("We've got those in stock, if you want to come buy a new one") is not going to win any points either, but it may lead to this:Top Ten Other Uses for a G4 Power Adapter:10.
