Epson MovieMate multimedia projector hands-on
Aiming to be a one-stop shop for slumber parties and business meetings alike, the MovieMate projector from Epson combines a projector and a DVD player into one easy-to-tote package. It packs HDMI, PC, and Component / RGB inputs, in addition to built-in speakers. There's a handle for easy carrying, and we're glad to report that it's not too heavy. Thankfully, Epson included a mic input for all those crazy karaoke sessions that might happen in the spur of the moment. Unfortunately there were no karaoke tunes on hand for us to test it out to, so we'll just have to take their word that it works like a charm. %Gallery-81906%
Jacob Schulman01.07.2010Epson blows the roof off of your house party with two new projectors
Epson's just announced two new additions to its home theatre lineup which should make your bi-weekly showing of House Party even more of a success than usual. First up, the PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD boasts a 720p resolution, a brightness of up to 2,500 lumens, and 1.2x optical zoom. The 705HD is an entry-level HD projector, so its pricing -- $750 -- is a bit less than some other models. The other model the company's outing is the MovieMate 60, a combo affair housing a 16:9 native resolution-having projector, plus a built-in dvd player and two 10 watt speakers. The projector has a brightness of up to 2,000 lumens. The MovieMate 60 retails for $650 -- and both are available now.

We're not at all pleased by Epson's refusal to reveal the native resolution of its MovieMate 55, but judging by the $699 estimated street price, we'd bet it's no better than 1,024 x 768. At any rate, the 8.4-pound unit is designed more for sleepovers and summer camps than home cinema applications, as it boasts a built-in DVD player rather than a Blu-ray unit (and the resolution to match). You'll also find a pair of 8-watt speakers, 1,200 ANSI lumens, E-TORL lamp and a built-in handle for good measure. Snag one for the youngin' this October at resellers all across the land.

Epson sure loves to stuff DVD players into its projectors, and while the newest duo has yet to make the jump to HD DVD or Blu-ray, they still look to be the perfect device for those who need movie projection on the go. The MovieMate 50 and MovieMate 72 are reportedly slated to land within a few months, but head on over to the gallery for an early look at what to expect.

Nah, Epson didn't bother bringing along any scanners or laptops to CEDIA, but for whatever reason, it seemed to forget half of the projectors we expected to see, too. Nevertheless, the HT-centric flavors were all in attendance, so feel free to check the gallery out and witness a wall (but regrettably, just one) full of drool-worthy PJs.
