  • Keepin' it real fake, part LXXV: MA-727 apes Samsung's T9B

There's blatant knockoffs, and then there's blatant knockoffs. As you can probably tell, this is most certainly a case of the latter, as the so-called creators of the MA-727 didn't even bother to take their own photo. Instead, it looks pretty clear that they simply doctored Samsung's own snapshot of the T9B, threw a pink miniSD card down beneath, and called it original. Sure, it can supposedly handle just about every format under the sun and touts a 2.4-inch display, built-in speaker, FM tuner, voice recorder, rechargeable Li-ion, and anywhere between 128MB and 2GB of internal storage, but we wouldn't recommend pulling the trigger on this one unless you've got more money than sense.[Via PMPToday]

  • Keepin' it real fake, part LXXIII: Lasonic rips the Samsung YP-T9

So you're looking for a DAP that's got all the cred of the Samsung YP-T9 but none of the screen resolution, Flash interface, PlaysForSure support or battery life? Lasonic's got you covered with the VP-SBK line of DAPs, which feature the same 1.8-inch screen size and basic design as the Sammy, but flips the D-pad color scheme and adds a built-in speaker and, bizarrely enough, an ebook reader for those who've always wanted glasses. 2GB versions are apparently popping up in Fry's right now for $60 -- and we bet Samsung's lawyers are already on the phone.[Via Anything But iPod]

  • Samsung's YP-T9, now with 8GB of tasty flash

With the (official) launch of Samsung's Yepp K3 presumably just weeks away, who could blame you for taking your eyes off the T9? Until January's CES, the T9 reigns supreme in Samsung's lineup of flash media players. It even sports its own "series" of third party accessories like the big boys... albeit, from just a single vendor so far. So today, Sammy announced an 8GB capacity bump to keep the Yepp competitive with all the other 8 giggers out there. The T9, however, delivers one notable exception: stereo Bluetooth. No details, but you can expect it to be priced to compete.

Some might say it's too little too late now for a hot new PlaysForSure device, but we got our greasy meat-hooks on Samsung's latest nano competitor, the YP-T9, and we have to say, these guys are finally on the right track after the huge disappointment that was the YP-Z5. In fact, despite the glaring and persistent lack of mass-storage mode, the device and its interface might finally give Samsung a bit of cred with, you know, people who want to use their player on a regular basis, and it's got a few niceties -- like OGG support, games, movies, audio recording, and FM radio -- to fill the gaps that the reigning champion of flash players still hasn't plugged. Click on for a ton of shots.

  • Samsung YP-T9 sneaks into the States

It's not like we weren't expecting it, but Samsung's Yepp YP-T9 player has finally been spotted in the US, though it's not exactly available yet. Best Buy has the 4GB player up for sale on their online store, but it's "backordered" for a week or two. The $199 pricetag lines up just fine with Apple's 4GB offering, but SanDisk's Sansa undercuts both of those at $179, so Sammy isn't getting any edge there. Luckily, the little player has gotten some decent review love, and it should be a decent option for those PlaysForSure Luddites that haven't yet jumped onto the hardware/software combo bandwagon, ala Apple, Microsoft and Real.[Thanks, Mike]

Alright, we've seen it hit the FCC, China and Korea, but how do we really feel about this new Yepp player diving into the already crowded nano-killer space? According to CNET, we feel "Very good." The YP-T9 sounds to be quite tactile and fun to use, with solid buttons, a nice finish and that lovable Adobe Flash interface. CNET found the 1.8-inch 176 x 220 display to be plenty good for a device of this size, but though photos looked sharp and videos played back smoothly, the device only supports the SVI codec, so it'll be a chore getting any video to watch on the tiny screen. As for performance, the player sounds like a winner -- even using the stock earphones -- and the 30 hours of audio playback and 7 hours of video (Samsung promised 6) are some of the best battery life stats going. The player turns out to be quite a worthy successor to the YP-T8, and while it didn't knock the socks off anybody at CNET-land, it should do all right for itself all the same.[Thanks, Pennywise]

  • Samsung's Yepp T9 hits Korea

Alright, nothing to see here. Samsung is just parading their sexy, Adobe Flash-capable, 1.8-inch screened, 30 hour lastin' and video-playin' Yepp T9 all across Asia with nary a thought for us lowly North Americans. Now they've hit their very own South Korea with the player, and we've got our first sight of pricing: 199,000 won, 239,000 won, and 299,000 won in Korea (for the 1, 2 and 4GB versions respectively), and supposed $180, $220, and $280 US pricetags for whenever it drops here. We're taking those latter prices with a grain of salt, since they're a fair bit off the direct conversion of won to dollar, and the player hasn't actually been announced for the States as far as we know, but we suppose it's better than nothing. So, anyone feeling that purple?[Via Akihabara]

  • Samsung's 4GB YP-T9 goes legit -- in China

So, Samsung has just released the YP-T9 in China, along with its Bluetooth counterpart, the YP-T9B we spotted passing through the FCC in July. Maybe Sammy didn't get the memo, but that FCC of ours is best used -- in our opinion, at least -- for Stateside releases, none of this piddling China stuff. Of course, a China release doesn't preclude a US release, and it's not like Samsung ever drops anything first over here anyways, but that doesn't mean we can't be total whiners about it. As for specs, everything seems to match the FCC docs, including a 1.8-inch screen, MP3, WMA and OGG codec support, Flash games, 30 hours of music playback, 6 hours of video playback (down from the 7 we spied, take that China!), and of course the 4GB of flash memory and Bluetooth support. Keep reading for some purty press shots of the player, but don't get too attached... gadget love is a cruel mistress.[Thanks, Samsung-the-man]

Looks like Samsung has a new one in the works; their YP-T9 DAP just got its FCC approval and it's looking mighty nice. The Yepp player measures 0.43-inches thick, and weighs a mere 1.7 ounces, but Samsung still managed a few extras. Most notable is the Bluetooth support for using wireless headphones, but there's plenty of other stuff like FM radio, voice recording, MP3/WMA/OGG support, photo and text viewing, and two full color 3D games. You can also play back 15fps videos at a 208 x 176 resolution, be we think we'll pass, thanks. Samsung claims 30 hours of music playback and 7 hours for video, but of course we have no idea as to when Samsung is planning on releasing this thing. Keep reading for more FCC glamour shots.[Thanks, Tuolumne]
