Sarotech T2 offers NAS relief to media fanatics in a diminutive, HD-friendly package
Sarotech's newest might not be the wildest media player in town, but if you're looking to get down to business in a svelte (4.5 x 3.75 x 0.85-inch) package, the T2 should be more than up to the task. This bad boy sports a Sigma SMPS8653 CPU (500MHz), support for Full HD MKV, H.264 videos, DTS and Dolby sound, and 1080p HDMI 1.3 output. If that weren't enough, this will also apparently function as a NAS functions (including FTP and Samba), 802.11n WiFi, and it has a USB port for external storage. Available now in South Korea for 160,000 won (about $143).
Joseph L. Flatley04.19.2010Sarotech updates book-like Hardbox to version 3.0, embraces SuperSpeed USB
We'll just come at you straight -- the world needs a more varied selection of external hard drives. Aside from the occasional LaCie / Lego-inspired alternative, there's really a stark lack of style when perusing the storage shelves at Best Buy. Sarotech's been one to blaze its own trail before, but we've yet to see a serious update to the impossible-to-hate Wizplatz W-31... until today, of course. The Hardbox 3.0 is, for all intents and purposes, a refreshed version of the aforementioned unit, and this HDD enclosure sports a sleek, all-black exterior along with a full complement of updated hardware that supports USB 3.0. It's apparently available with 1TB, 1.5TB, 2TB or 3TB within, though it sounds as if you'll have to wait until at least February to find one available for shipping. It'll be worth it, though.
Darren Murph01.28.2010Sarotech's WizPlat boxes 4TB NAS with BitTorrent client, biscuits
Let's be honest: the standout feature of the WizPlat NAS-20 is its boxed-lunch design. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard network attached storage device offering Gigabit ethernet, up to 4TB (2TB per 3.5-inch bay) in RAID 0/1 or JBOD configs, 2x USB for more storage, FTP, SAMBA, iTunes, and printer servers, and integrated BitTorrent client for 24/7 PC-less downloads. Unfortunately the design, while portable, pretty much eliminates any hope of constructing a stacked monument to copyright infringement. [Via Akihabara News]
Thomas Ricker09.17.2009Sarotech's Wizplatz W-31 looks like a book, isn't
If you felt like your Western Digital My Book hard drive went too far -- or didn't go too far enough -- in looking like an actual tome, Sarotech is here to turn it up a notch. When you absolutely, positively must have a drive that looks like a fake book, you can do no better than the Wizplat W-31 (yes, really). The SATA-drive-sporting, USB 2.0 device features an internal power supply, ample vents for keeping your drive cool, and a slick, sexy exterior that says, "Hey, I'm a book." All this luxury can be yours for the low, price of ???121,000 (about $120) for a 320GB version, up to ???315,000 ($312) for the 1TB model. Too bad this only appears to be available in Korea right now.[Via Everything USB]
Joshua Topolsky05.13.2008Sarotech's Wizplat NAS-20 makes stealing fun
If you've grown tired of the cold corporate design sensibilities of most NAS products (uh hem, Buffalo), then check the Wizplat NAS-20 from Sarotech. This 2-bay NAS box supports a pair of SATA disks for what should top-out at 2TB of roll-your-own storage on your gigabit Ethernet network. It features a pair of USB jacks, built-in iTunes and print servers, and even a BitTorrent server which should allow your home PC to take a rest from your 7 x 24 downloading scheme. Thomas Ricker03.07.2008Sarotech's latest HD DivX player, portable HD, and photo storage unit
We don't usually hear the name Sarotech around these parts, but the company has some interesting products in its catalog -- including the three it released today. The Cutie Slim ditches the fingerprint reader of the previous Cutie we looked at to weigh in at just half an inch thick and three inches wide, while the DSR-281 Plus photo storage unit lets you offload your SD cards to its internal 120GB drive, and includes SDHC compatibility. The real monster, however, is the abigs DVP-570 HD Lite, an external media bridge that supports virtually every format we can think of, including HD DivX at 1080p resolutions, and also includes USB host mode, DVI-out, 5.1 channel digital out with DTS passthrough, and even a freaking FM transmitter, for some reason. If that's not enough to keep you entertained, the 570 also features an ebook reader, so you can curl up on the couch and read a book on your big screen. We're aching to get our hands on one of these, but sadly it looks like these are Korea-only for now. Nilay Patel08.17.2007Sarotech's Cutie Bio portable HDD sports fingerprint scanner
Cute though it may be, Sarotech's Cutie Bio portable hard drive is downright serious about data protection. Not one to let a lingering stranger peek beneath its dazzling shell, this pocket-friendly drive touts a built-in fingerprint scanner to protect the owner from spying eyes should it become lost or stolen. Additionally, the drive is built to handle drops and shocks as the head parks itself in freefall, and the USB 2.0 connection ensures speedy transfers when in a rush. Inside, you'll find a 2.5-inch 100GB hard drive just hankering for piles upon piles of juicy information, and this uber-protective device will run you ???150,000 ($162) whenever it lands in South Korea.[Via AVing]
