NFL Network and NFL Redzone are now live on Sling TV
After striking a content deal with the NFL last week, Sling TV is now making the NFL Network and NFL Redzone channels available on its streaming service. The company announced that, starting today, Sling Blue subscribers will have NFL Network on their guide -- that bundle is $25 per month, in case you're not familiar with Sling TV's offering. Meanwhile, NFL Redzone requires the Sports Extra add-on for Sling Blue, which costs an extra $5 monthly. Thankfully for cord-cutters who love watching football, the timing couldn't be better, as the NFL preseason kicks off tomorrow with a game between the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints.
Edgar Alvarez08.10.2016NFL Network and RedZone Channel coming to Time Warner Cable (Update: Officially confirmed)
You don't have to look high (or low) to find a litany of complaints regarding Time Warner Cable's service, support or pricing, but it's evidently aiming to right one particular wrong later today. According to Bloomberg, the National Football League has inked a deal with TWC to bring the NFL Network and RedZone Channel to its systems. The move comes just months after the NFL ushered its networks onto rival Cablevision, putting TWC is a particular bind in the greater NYC market. It's still unclear where the channels will be positioned and how much extra you'll have to pony up to get 'em, but hey -- it's cheaper than moving to a FiOS neighborhood. (Though, admittedly, less satisfying.) Update: Both parties have confirmed it, NFL Network and NFL RedZone Channel are coming to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks starting September 23rd. NFL Network will be included for customers on the Digital Basic and Sports Pass tiers, while NFL RedZone is on the Sports Pass package only, check the press release after the break for the relevant details and self-congratulatory affirmations.
Darren Murph09.21.2012DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket returns to PS3 in time for the upcoming football season
With this year's National Football League season almost ready to kick off (not taking pre-season games into consideration, of course), DirecTV's properly preparing itself on all entertainment cylinders. The satellite provider announced earlier today that the well-known Sunday Ticket package will be returning to the PlayStation 3 on September 4th via a PS Store update, allowing current subscribers to stream full-HD games directly to Sony's renowned console. As for those without any current attachments to DirecTV, however, there is an option out there -- one which costs a familiar $300 per NFL season. We've still got a few days until the madness gets started, which should be plenty of time to get approval from your better half to snag the action-packed ticket.
Edgar Alvarez08.30.2012Cablevision set to offer NFL Network, RedZone Channel after finally striking a deal
It certainly took a lot longer than we expected it to, but it's here at last: Cablevision and the National Football League have finally struck a viewing deal -- a multi-year agreement, no less. Earlier today, the aforementioned TV provider announced it will start offering the well-known NFL Network and RedZone Channel to its Optimum TV customers starting tomorrow, with both channels being available in standard definition and, of course, high-def as well. Naturally, Cablevision users will have to be subscribed to the proper IO package in order to get the action included in these channels, but something tells us you won't mind upgrading your bundle if need be. The official word from the cable company's in the PR below, and now you have something else to look forward to tomorrow.
Edgar Alvarez08.16.2012DirecTV drops NFL Sunday Ticket price for current subscribers
After raising the price of its NFL Sunday Ticket package last season, this year DirecTV is dropping it back down for current subscribers, to just $199. Of course, most of the impetus for the price drop is probably because so many current subs are people who signed up for the service last season with Sunday Ticket as a freebie, but we're sure regular customers will gladly keep the cash in their pockets. Another change for the 2012 season is the NFL Sunday Ticket Max package, which includes all the extras of SuperFan and To-Go (RedZone Channel, streaming to iOS and Android mobile devices, Short Cuts, VOD highlights, etc.) extras as a part of the bundle for an extra $100 to existing customers, or for $299.95. There's no word on any additional game consoles or internet only packages yet, but at least with the lockout a distant memory, football fans have all offseason to decide if they want to shell out for it.
Richard Lawler04.19.2012Verizon's RedZone Channel-streaming FiOS Football app for iPad shows up on iTunes (again)
Though the FiOS Football app for iPad only showed up on the App Store for a short time a couple of weeks ago, it was long enough for us to fall in love with having access to RedZone Channel video and stats in our laps while keeping the TV tuned to one key game. Assuming one is at home in front of their FiOS TV with an iPad and a subscription to the Redzone Channel (a remarkably specific set of circumstances, we must admit), it's hard to imagine a better companion on football Sundays that doesn't come with an unending reserve of one's favorite adult beverage on tap. Check out our hands-on for more screenshots and impressions or hit the source links for Verizon's FAQ and the official iTunes page.%Gallery-106911% [Thanks, Michael]
Richard Lawler11.17.2010Hands-On with the unannounced Verizon FiOS RedZone iPad App
We were searching the App Store for NFL this morning and we stumbled upon an app called FiOS Football. The app lets you watch the NFL RedZone channel live on the iPad if you subscribe to the channel and if you're at home. After enjoying the quality live feed (not quite HD, but better than most streaming we've seen) of the RedZone channel full screen -- or in a window with scores, stats, info and even a mini Twitter widget around it -- we realized we'd never heard of this app. We went back to the iTunes store, and what do you know, it wasn't there anymore. This obviously made us curious and while Verizon announced its intent to stream live TV to iPads back in August, to this date no apps have been released. Overall we think the app is a great way to follow the highlights of the league while watching your favorite team on the HDTV, and hope that this is just the beginning of Verizon trying to make the iPad the perfect couch companion. Obviously the app needs to come back to the iTunes store for that to happen, so everyone with FiOS TV and an iPad can enjoy it. %Gallery-106911%
Ben Drawbaugh11.07.2010Poll: How does NFL RedZone compare to DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket?
Even though they can't add NFL Sunday Ticket to your programming package, most of DirecTV's competitors are offering the NFL RedZone Channel now. Of course, it's fought back with a recent ad featuring a disappointed couple find out all their friends are skipping their game day celebration to go across the street and watch football somewhere that has Sunday Ticket (and all the extras) instead of "just the highlights." So let us know, are you trying to catch every snap of (most) of the games, satisfied with "just the highlights" or simply relying on whatever games come in OTA this fabulous football Sunday?%Poll-52639%
Richard Lawler09.12.2010NFL Network, Redzone Channel could be coming to more cable companies
If your cable company hasn't offered NFL Network so far, keep an eye out, as the league's station and the National Cable Television Cooperative are opening it and NFL Redzone up to the co-op's members. The group claims 17 of the 20 largest cable companies in the country as it's members (including Suddenlink, Cablevision, Cox, GCI and more -- but not Time Warner), so while it's not a straight shot to seeing this channel in your guide, the option is out there so call your provider if you're interested.
Richard Lawler08.21.2010DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket adds SuperFan (HD games, Red Zone) for all, streaming is extra
With football season ready to kick off yet again there's still no good news for those who want Sunday Ticket without DirecTV, but if you do have the right satellite hookup then there are a few new wrinkles in 2010. First the bad news, at five payments of $59.99 the price has risen yet again to $299.95, but this year features that used to require the $99 SuperFan add-on -- every game in high definition, Game Mix Channel, Red Zone Channel, Short Cuts -- are included, so if that's what you wanted then the price has actually gone down. One SuperFan feature that's still extra is access to streaming games, now broken out on its own at NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go, it brings 14 Sunday ticket games every week, Red Zone Channel, highlights, stats and more via the internet (PC, Mac, Android, iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, webOS, Windows Mobile) for an additional five payments of $9.95. Check the press release after the break for all the details, but we're pretty sure this is the kind of decision that makes itself for most NFL fans.
Richard Lawler08.02.2010NFL Mobile comes to Verizon with livestreaming RedZone channel
We'd heard that the NFL would be bringing the RedZone channel to phones this season, and it looks like Verizon was the highest bidder: NFL Mobile will launch on Big Red next month with the draft, complete with live streaming video of the event, on-demand video analysis from NFL Network, a pick-by-pick draft tracker, and other content. Once the season starts, customers will get RedZone, live streams of Sunday night and Thursday night games, on-demand video highlights and analysis, live home and away radio broadcasts, fantasy info, and the usual nasty ringtones and graphics. That's a ton of content, and it certainly makes Sprint's NFL package seem a little light in comparison -- we'll have to see what pricing is like and what devices this'll run on closer to launch, however. Bring on the draft! Update: We just confirmed that NFL Mobile will be exclusive to Verizon for the next four years, which means Sprint customers are out of luck. Verizon paid a pretty penny for the rights: the Wall Street Journal values the deal at $720 million.
Nilay Patel03.09.2010It's game day, who's got the NFL RedZone Channel?
The wait is finally over and today's the first big Sunday of the NFL Season which means that you're probably making your last minute preparations. As far as programing goes, the NFL has done a great job of getting carriage for its new NFL RedZone channel, but of course not everyone is going to carry it -- sorry Time Warner Cable and Bright House Network customers. So here's a run down of the Winners. Comcast, Dish Network and AT&T U-Verse customers made out the best because all they have to is subscribe to a $5 (aprox) sports package. Verizon FiOS and RCN customers didn't make out as well though as they will have to pay $49 for the season without any other channels included -- but hey at least they got it. For the rest of you, not much you can do, just keep calling your provider and voicing your desires and in the meantime maybe someone of Twitter will hook you up with access to their SlingBox HD.
Ben Drawbaugh09.13.2009Two down, everyone else to go for NFL's new RedZone channel
The fact that the new RedZone channel is coming to Comcast is old news, but no one really knew how much it was going to cost. No surprises, but it'll be offered on the Comcast Sports Entertainment Package which goes for $7.99 a month. DISH Network will also be offering it in a similar package called the Multi-Sport Package which goes for $5.99 a month. This seems totally worth it for what you get, but do wish it wasn't extra -- you can probably get a deal if you call and complain. The network goes live on September 13th at 1pm, but we'll all have to wait and see if any other providers announce carriage in the next few weeks.Read - DISH NetworkRead - Comcast
Ben Drawbaugh08.26.2009NFL & Comcast reach agreement: NFL Network switches to digital classic by August 1
Forget all the fights and accusations, the NFL Network and Comcast have reached an agreement that will see the channel moved from the sports tier to its Digital Classic level by August 1, available to almost 2/3 of the company's subscribers. Also coming to cable bound NFL fans? Video on-demand content and Comcast will have the "ability" to offer the no longer exclusive NFL Redzone Channel when it launches. No word on what this means for any other operators but we wouldn't be surprised if this deal is just the first of several providing wider access to NFL Network. Now, just to see how much our cable bill jumps in the fall to know the real cost of this addition.
