Nintendo's Play-Yan Micro media adapter
From what we understand, Nintendo's new version of the Play-Yan SD media adapter—dubbed the Play-Yan Micro,
wonder why?—won't rock the boat a bunch.
The device will still read MP3, MP4, and ASF files off SD the same as usual, but it will instead do away with the
little blue stick figure (he's now green) and the free downloadable mini games. Oh, and did we mention it's called the
Play-Yan Micro, too? We did. Oh, well, that's it, sorry everybody. Look for it real soon in a store near you… if you
live in Japan.

Why do they get all of the good stuff? I'll need to plan a trip to their silicon alley..

Just so you know, carts plug into the bottom of the micro. And the site for the Play-Yan micro is here: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/play_yan_micro/index.html

omg!!!1!1 teh pSp iz uber alles!1!!1! Nintendo sux0rs
There you go, i've said everything you fanboys wanted to say, so leave it be.
(I am more in the way of a PSP than nintendo, but it would be nice to read comments on a news article about the DS/PSP without having to scroll through copious quantities of irrelevent fanboy posts about how DS/PSP is better because of x reason. Please save that for the PSP vs. DS thread you fools)

You know, if I can get my Convert X to automatically record shows, encode them as an mp4 this thing can read, and set up an automator workflow or applescript to transfer it to my SD card, then I'd be interested.

Does this mean it will play games, music AND video (pr0n)?
OMFG! no seriously?
KirbyMeister @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Yea this is all good, but any ETA on a US release of the Play-Yan cart? And I dont count being able to import it off of Lik-Sang a 'release'.
jon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
callused, you look like a fool since no one has brought up psp at all. i think youre one of the fools you were talking about, since you just did what they do.
now, that picture is wrong, that's odd. and i wonder how good sound quality will be?
radius @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM

I heard that there is a headphone jack on the bottem of the play-yan. Thats why the cartrige sticks out of the actually gameboy. The sound quility for music and movies are way better if you use that headphone jack instead of the one with your GBA/NDS. But this is MICRO so i'm not sure if there is a head phone jack on the actually system itself, so i guess you have to use the one on the play-yan. I really hope they release it in america. If not, then i'm not gettin a micro at all.

No one had yet brought it up, but you can go back through any post about the DS/PSP and find it, I was merely pre-empting the comment. Surely a prediction is not absurd, as there are very noticible patterns to the comments on engadget.
How am I like them? Because I mentioned the word PSP? Or because of my mocking of the depth of their arguments? Requesting that no one makes comparitive comments in a thread where it wasn't appropriate is hardly a foolish thing to do, surely it's just keeping the comments section clean (oh yes, I realise the irony)
Trejkaz @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
The sound quality of the DS is pretty good already (see Meteos, for instance.) But, this sort of device has to go through GBA emulation mode, so on a DS it will probably sound significantly worse than the real thing.
The next step of course, is a DS cart which has a higher-quality, DS media player installed, but uses the SD card in the GBA slot for data storage (like that GPS hack.)

The Play-Yan with the newest firmware update increases the video and more specifically the sound quality dramatically. The sound comes straight out from the Play-Yan which has a very powerful Alpha Mosaic media processor.
oh btw the GBmicro does have a built-in headphone jack.
