Runtastic's Libra scale tracks bone and muscle mass, ships mid-November for $129
We've seen connected scales that provide oxygen levels and heart rates, but they have nothing on the sheer range of data coming from Runtastic's imminent Libra scale. In addition to basic weight and body fat measurements, the Bluetooth-based sensor can also calculate body mass index, bone mass, muscle mass and body water content. Got all that? As you'd expect, there's a mobile app to process the flood of information; it's iOS-only at launch, but the company promises an Android equivalent in early 2014. Runtastic ships the scale itself in mid-November for $129.

Runtastic's State-of-the-Art LIBRA Scale offers New Tools to Manage Health
LIBRA Scale and Story Running Feature Added to Runtastic's Health & Fitness Ecosystem
San Francisco, CA – October 31, 2013 – Today Runtastic - an innovative suite of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness - introduced the Runtastic LIBRA scale and Story Running. The Runtastic LIBRA is a new, state-of-the-art scale that tracks a variety of health metrics and wirelessly syncs with iOS compatible devices. Story Running is a brand new Runtastic in-app purchase that offers four interactive running experiences to help users get in shape.
"Runtastic continuously strives to create innovative products that inspire individuals to be healthy and stay in their ideal shape," said Florian Gschwandtner, CEO of Runtastic. "LIBRA will continue that trend by providing users with immediate in-depth health analysis. With the ability to connect across multiple devices and the entire Runtastic fitness platform, living a healthy and active lifestyle has never been easier."
Runtastic LIBRA Scale
The Runtastic LIBRA scale offers individuals an in-depth solution for managing health data. The scale offers eight different features – weight, body fat, goals, muscle mass, Body Mass Index, body water content, calorie calculation, and bone mass – and the data automatically syncs via Bluetooth Smart (4.0) technology directly to the LIBRA app on users' iOS devices and to Runtastic.com.
The detailed body metrics and target analysis allow users to review and analyze their statistics in order to reach their health goals. With a single touch, users can easily set their daily calorie allowances to keep consistency among personalized goals. Users can also set custom goals to successfully achieve their ideal weight or body composition. Up to eight unique users can setup and manage their personal goals, either on multiple smartphones or under the same Runtastic LIBRA app.
Runtastic LIBRA syncs with Runtastic.com where users can see data from all Runtastic apps and products in the Runtastic Ecosystem.
Runtastic Story Running
Story Running offers Runtastic users four different interactive audio experiences – travel, fantasy, adventure and motivation - to make running more fun. The athlete slips into the protagonist's role and actively engages in the story:
• Travel: In "Marvels of Rio," you run through the streets of Rio de Janeiro and learn about the history and beauty of the Brazilian city.
• Fantasy: In "The Land of Iomluath," the world is out of balance and you are the only one who can stop the fulfillment of the dreadful prophecies. In order to do this, you must go through the forbidden empire and find three unknown objects to help stabilize the balance of the world.
• Adventure: In "The Carrier of Truth - The Walls of Alcatraz," you have to escape from the famous prison while being chased by tracking dogs and jail guards.
• Motivation: In "A Runner's Dream," a personal coach pushes you to your limits and motivates you to reach new goals in life.
Perfectly aligned sound effects accompany the stories based on interval training plans to push the user to new top performances in a playful and natural fashion. Thanks to the human sense of urgency, the runner will instinctively know when to speed up or slow down his or her pace. By involving the runner in an interactive story, Story Running offers the best possible workout and pushes the user to reach new goals.
